When did you start exercising and why? I first started playing sports in junior high.  By high school I decided to focus on football and went on to play college football at McKendree University.  As a kid I stuck with sports because my dad encouraged me.  Eventually I discovered that sports was something that I enjoyed and was good at.

What are your current fitness goals? I am currently training for a half marathon.  I ran a marathon in Milwaukee with my wife in October 2010. I enjoyed the challenge so I am currently training for a 1/2 marathon in the spring.

Have you noticed a difference in how you feel as a result of your fitness routine? Yes, I notice a huge difference when I exercise. Exercise is a great stress-reliever for me and helps me focus for the rest of my day. Because exercise has always been a part of my life I can tell a big difference in how I feel when I miss a workout. If I miss a workout I feel more stressed, fatigued, and have more pain and stiffness in my joints.

What advice do you have for someone starting a fitness routine? Start gradually, and don’t do something that will hurt yourself.  It’s better to work up to a challenging routine over time than to get injured during the first week of a fitness routine and have to stop exercising.

What are your hobbies? I love watching football. (Go Colts!) I like training for new and challenging fitness events and I enjoy reading.

What are your favorite foods? I could say vegetables and make everyone think that is all I eat, but since the question is “favorite” I would have to say pizza.

What are your least favorite foods? My least favorite foods are: cream cheese, and sour cream. I can’t stand the texture (or taste).

What is your favorite exercise and why? This could be a long answer! I think every exercise is my favorite at some point (just ask any of my clients). Right now my favorite exercises are for the hamstrings such as lunges, good mornings, or leg curls. They are important muscles to work and I can really tell a difference when my hamstrings are stronger.

What exercise do you like least? A few months ago I would have said running, but after my marathon training, I have started to really enjoy it. Now my least favorite exercise is probably pull-ups. They are difficult, and my elbow always hurts from a past injury.

Why did you become a personal trainer? I became a personal trainer so that I could help people learn to love fitness as much as I do. I have clients who have made significant improvements to their health, and this motivates me to encourage all of my clients to keep working toward their fitness goals. I love that I can help people improve their lives by helping them make time to invest in their health on a regular basis.

Why did you become a registered dietitian? Growing up, I saw many of my friends and family members struggle with weight and eating disorders. It pained me to see their struggles so I sought out information to understand them better and offer assistance. Along the way, I realized the importance of a healthy lifestyle and how I could help others.

What are your current fitness goals? Run my first 5K and tone up for summer time!

Have you noticed a difference in how you feel as a result of your fitness routine and nutrition habits? I have increased my energy, decreased anxiety, and improved my cardiovascular efficiency.

What advice do you have for someone starting a nutrition program? Know that it is a CONSTANT struggle. There will always be temptation, set backs and struggles when working toward a goal. If you have 100% commitment to self-improvement tomorrow can be better than today!

What are your hobbies? I like food (of course–I’m a dietitian), movies, traveling, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Cardinals baseball and my family.

What are your favorite foods? I love fish, sushi and peanut butter. I can never pass up a chocolate martini!

What are your least favorite foods? Onions! I avoid them at all costs!

What is your favorite exercise? I’m a cardio girl. I especially enjoy interval training.

What exercise do you like least? Swimming…I was never any good at it. I failed swim lessons when I was younger.

When did you start exercising and Why? I was always a very active kid and loved playing sports because my parents encouraged us to always play outside rather than inside. Growing up I played soccer from age 8 to 17 inspired by my brother.  I danced and was in gymnastics from ages 5 to 11 because I enjoyed it.

What are your current fitness goals? To maintain my current weigh and tone up.
Have you noticed a difference in how you feel as a result o fyour fitness routine?. I always feel better after a good workout, even if I’m dreading the workout or really not in the mood for it I feel better and relaxed afterwards.  Plus it’s a good way for me to get away from school.

What advice do you have for someone starting a fitness routine? Start where you feel comfortable and gradually move forward.  Just because the person next to you is doing something really advanced doesn’t mean you need to be doing it.  Doing an exercise correctly and at you’re own ability is more important.

What are your hobbies? I love watching movies and reading.  In the summer I’m big on being in the water and sunshine.

What are your favorite foods? Kraft Mac & Cheese and Chips and Salsa.

What are your least favorite foods? Onions, I like the flavor they give to foods but i had their taste.

What is your favorite exercise and why? Squats! They are a great lower body workout, and you can do them anywhere and don’t need anything or any equipment.

What exercise do you like least? Push-ups, I don’t have a lot of upper body strength so it is a lot harder to push myself to do them.
